Further Copyright and License Notices

PADict

A short (?) word about licenses and the PAdict package.

Licenses are a bit complicated here, as many people did much different things here.
All license files are placed in the subdirectory LICENSES to clean things up.

************************************************************************************

In really short terms that would mean:

LICENSE file, GNU General Public License:
padict.prc (PAdict itself),
jstroke.pdb, jstroke_h.pdb, jstroke_k.pdb

MIT file, The MIT License:
taka.pdb

edrdg_licence.html, EDRDG GENERAL DICTIONARY LICENCE:
kjdef.pdb
edict.pdb

elisa*:
elisa.pdb

radkfile_license.txt:
radkfile.pdb

free for non-commercial use:
KochiSubstMincho32x32.pdb

************************************************************************************
Now, for those more deeply interested:

***

At first, there is PAdict itself. The whole program is available under the GPL. The
GPL (GNU Public Licence) is distributed with this package as LICENSE.

The program PocketKanji has been merged into PAdict a while ago; it has been under
the GPL, so this also applies here.

***

Than, there are some fonts:
- the 16x16 bitmap font (pkanjifnt.pdb) is available at Jim Breens page and seems to
be free to use, so there is no license available.

- the 8x8 bitmap font (elisa.pdb) has been derived from the elisa font. The main
problem with it is that the elisa font makers speak japanese, and it was hard
to aquire a license in english for the font. Usage has been approved, and I *hope*
that I included a correct license file in this package. If not, this does not mean
any harm was meant, and I apologize. An appropriate license will be added if there
are any future complaints. I tried to reach YAFO from the elisa project several times,
but all my mails rebounced :(

As he approved the usage "in general", and "only" wanted to see my release, I'll
release it like it is, adding what I think might be OK in license files. I'll keep
trying to contact the Elisa team (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002310/).

Right now, look for elisa100.htm (japanese original doc) and
elisa100_padict_LICENSE.en (with my preamble).

- KochiSubstMincho32x32.pdb - a bitmap font rendered from the "Kochi Japanese TrueType
fonts with Wadalab Fonts", shipped with Gentoo Linux, and rendered with FreeType.
The font package is marked as free for non-commercial use.

Next: KANJIDIC has been the source for kjdef.pdb file containing the kanji
descriptions. It is developed by the EDRDG at Monash University and available
under the EDRDG license. Please look for edrdg_licence.html

***

And: radkfile.pdb is a converted radkfile (surprising, isn't it?). More surprises: look into
radkfile_license.txt for more infos.

***

The jstroke.pdb files contains the stroke recognition data that has been ported by
Robert Wells from KanjiDic for the Palm. KanjiDic is covered by the GPL, so this
data is also covered by the GPL. Many definitions have been added while the file was
used in PocketKanji (also GPL). Please refer to the LICENSE file.

***

The jstroke_h.pdb and jstroke_k.pdb have been assembled by Stephan Matthiesen for
PAdict. They contain the stroke recognition data for hiragana and katakana. GPL.
LICENSE file.

I hope that's it... for questions/suggestions/complains:

#
# This is the data file that drives the multi-radical lookup method in XJDIC,
# WWWJDIC and possibly other dictionary and related software.
#
# The file is based on work done in 1994/1995 by Michael Raine in which he
# analyzed all the JIS1/2 kanji and identified the constituent radicals and
# other common elements, with the intention of facilitating the selection of
# kanji within a dictionary program by identifying multiple elements.
# The file was revised by Jim Breen in September 1995. Further revisions were
# done in 1998/9 at the suggestion of Wolfgang Conrath, then a revision was
# carried out in 2001 using suggestions from Yutaka Ohno based on a similar
# decomposition made by Kobayashi.
#
# The format of the file is as follows:
#
# (a) all lines starting with a # are comments
# (b) all lines starting with a $ identify a kanji element, followed by its
# stroke-count and optionally the JIS X 0212 code of the kanji whose glyph
# better depicts the element in question.
# (c) all other lines with kanji in them are associated with the previously
# identified element.
#
# The file can, of course, be modified by users to suit their preferences.
# Note that this file has been automatically compiled from another file,
# "kradfile", in which each of the JIS1/2 kanji is listed, along with its
# elements.
